I know, I was just planting the seed of a Cabella's trip
Gander is right around the corner, well sort of around the corner of where I grew up, that was a happy day in my life when that store opened.

I was just looking at the Ruger bible, it has both the thumbhole and a hogue overmold stock... if the thumb hole deal doesnt float your boat, the Hogue will work for a lefty.

I just looked on Ruger's site, and there is no option for a laminate stock other than the thumbhole. There is the Hogue one though. I coulda sworn the one at Bass Pro was a traditional stock with that laminate. O well, I have been wrong before. I didn't look close or handle it, I just noticed the goofy harmonic balancer (notice the posts get more technical while looking at Ruger's site).

I hit up Bass Pro twice last week, I'm spoiled by living so close.

There is one at my local gun shop and I have handled it, but can't remember if the thumbhole is ambi or not. I am a left handed shooter, but am so used to thumbhole stocks not fitting, that I ignore it I guess. Unless thay are mine, and then I alter them to fit. I'm going by there tomorrow and of it's still there, I'll check it out from that perspective.

The following is simply my opinion, so take it or leave it:

My first impressions of the new target model mini were not real good. The standard mini is a nicely balaced, light, quick handling weapon, albeit not very accurate.

It seems that with the target model, their attempt to overcome the faults of the original mini, (poor accuracy) they have destroyed the good qualities of balance, weight, and handling characteristics.

The thing is so bulky and heavy, that you had might as well get a bull barreled bolt rifle chambered in .308 if you want accuracy at distance, becuase it weighs about the same. If you want a .223 that can compete with an AR for accuracy and handling characteristics, this aint it. Accuracy maybe, but handling, no way.

That being said, I think the one with the Houge stock may be a bit better handling, but have not had the chance to pick one up. Still, with that big balancer on the heavy barrel it;s not going to handle as nice as the original.

That gun looks like a death ray used in some 3rd rate Sci-Fi movie.

And I love my Mini 14s.

A friend got one. It's not for a lefty (as I am). Shoots very nice for a right handed shooter though.
