Out of those two, I would take a 30-06

But I would take .308 above both of them.

I've got them both .270 130 gain Nosler Partitions for deer, great for long range and good penetration even at bad angles and 180 grain Nosler Partition for Elk, great penetration even when hitting bone.

Ought six would be my preference over the .270. It is more versatile than the .270 IMHO and I have never gone into a gun store where they didn't carry ought six ammo.

Because it has been shown to be about 3x more accurate than the 30-06 and only about 100 fps less at any given bullet weight. Not to mention it being one of our military calibers.

sure maybe up to 150 grains then it falls off real fast

It's true for heavier bullets than that. For example, Federal's 180 grain Premium Vital-Shok is only 80 fps slower in .308.
