Caliber Wars: .270 vs. .30-06
Of these two rounds which would you rather have in a bolt action rifle and why?

Both great cartridges. The 30-06 has the advantage of heavier bullet wieghts. Both are flat shooting, wind bucking, hard hitting, and very versital rounds.

30-06, but only because I have shot so many rounds that I know the drop and wind drift almost without thinking about it. Either will kill any game animal in North America.

30-06 , it is very common, also large variety of loads.

30-06. As mentioned both have rather flat trajectories, but the Ott-Six can have a heavier bullet, AND more choices on bullet weights for your application.. Can I ask what you intend on using the rifle for?
Note to mention: I shoot a bolt action SS Ruger M77 30-06 for deer season. I use 155 or 165 grain Remington Core-Lokt pointed soft point bullets for whitetail deer in Alabama. (Kind of overkill in AL where visibility is usually limited, and most shots are 150 yards or less. My father uses a .243, which also has a flat trajectory) I hear the Winchester Ballistic Tips fragment heavily upon coming into contact with bone, shattering/exploding inside the game animal and rendering a good portion of the areas surrounding the wound channel bloodshot and inedible. This is not my first hand experience, but I have read, and heard- from several reliable hunter sources about the problems with ballistic tips. Thats probably too much info or not exactly what you were looking for but thought I'd volunteer that information incase it was helpful.

What are you going to do with it?
I own a 30-06 excellent all around caliber, by handloading you get some serious versatility. I also own a .270, my all time favorite deer caliber, light recoil and pretty flat shooting. Luckily I don’t have to choose. Chuck

I load 150 grn. Barnes x bullets for my .06 for deer. Full copper bullet thru out. No separation and a nice expanded mushroom of sharp copper.
