Need some help from the 1911 guys!

I just picked up (cheap) another Llama 1911 45acp. as a practice project. I am planning on getting a new Taurus PT 1911B or a solid Springfield GI or Mil spec in the near future and wanted something to play with and re-familiarize on.
It needs a new seer and disconnect. Thats no big deal.
The problem that I've run into is the mag release. The catch lock is chewed up pretty badly. The lock will rotate pretty close to 90deg. and the spring tension releases but I cannot get the release to come out of the frame.

My question is this:Do I need to drill out the release catch lock and if I do will I be able to save the release or am I just making matters worse? I want order everything that I need for this at once.

The release works now but it sticks a little. Not to mention that I can't remove the trigger/bar assy.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am not (obviously) a gunsmith but I did train as an armorer (22yrs ago) in the Army and should have enough skill to rebuild this puppy.

From the looks of the damage already done, I would drill it out.

Drill it out and ger a whole new catch assembly. If you have a dremmel, you may be able to cut a slot in what's left of that mess and use a screwdriver to get it out...

Good luck on drilling it out.I would buy a Springfield over a taurus
any day.A milispec is reasonably priced and probably less than the
taurus.
