No prob with guns or ammo at Walmart here. In fact I just bought 300 rounds of .45 acp FMJ (CCI Blazer) for $9.52 for a box of 50. I think I'd better go buy some more to show my support.

Stores need permits from the local authorities as well as BATFE.

Frequently local policies or prejudices influence what a store is allowed to sell.

We have Wal-Mart stores in our area who sell ammo (and used to sell guns) but the local police chief "prohibited" them from selling paintball or airguns/supplies (neither of which actually require any permits to own/sell, just a minimum age to purchase). The threat of losing their state ammo dealer's license "keeps them in line".

Some other WMs can sell paintball but not airgun, etc. Some don't sell any ammo/paintball/airguns.

We're getting a new BassPro in the area, it will be interesting to see what their local chief allows/disallows.

I couldn't imagine a BassPro that doesn't sell Guns and Ammo.

New Walmart in Grand Haven, Michigan doens't sell ammo or guns. The next closest two in Muskegon, Michigan only sell ammo.

Walmart by me sells guns! I've never seen one that doesn't!? I almost always buy my ammo there, too. At least range practice ammo. I almost always OC into walmart...

As far as TLE (tire lube express, their 'auto center'..) the local walmart I usually goto, has two other walmarts, and a couple of sams clubs with TLE(tire lube express) in them, within 25 minutes away, so they didn't see a point.

Strange, our new SuperWally has a nice big guns and ammo section.

I usually buy at Dick's Sporting Goods. Their case price for Remington UMC is about the best for 9mm FMJ.

The WMs near me still stock a decent selection of ammo, though the clerks are pretty clueless. I was picking up food for my new P229 tonight and pointed out the ammo I wanted the gal behind the counter, to which she replied "So you want the 9mm Lugger 147 grade fmjay?" I just smiled and said yes ma'am and thanked her for her help and did everything I could not to giggle like a little kid.
