Just for the record you should know that it is possible to revert a Series 80 to a Series 70 by removing the two frame parts...adding the spacer into the frame (available at Brownell's for 6 bucks) and then just removing the firing pin block parts from the slide.
Then you have a Series 70 - the only difference being one part added into the frame and one unseen and unused extra hole in the slide. The Series 80 firing pin and extractor can stay the same. All other Series 80 parts can remain in use on the reverted pistol.

Thanks for the correction. The info I had must have been wrong. It has been a while since I have seen a series 80 in a local area gunshop.

You're welcome Sir.

The only Series '70 type actions they're currently producing are the WWI Model 1911 Reproduction and the Series 70 Reproduction.

Folks, there's a valuable lesson to be learned in this thread.

Don't try to stump OD and QKShooter on a Colt question!

It might be possible to stump me for sure.
It is not humanly possible to stump OD on anything "Old Slabsides" related.

I appreciate the sentiments fellas.

It would be easy to stump me on the 1911, there are many makers I know nothing about (I can be stumped on Colt's too).

I can't tell the difference in the trigger myself

I have a number of Colts, and the two I shoot the most are a Series 80 Gold Cup and a pre Series 70 Gold Cup. The guns are very similar, of course, but the Series 80 has the extra plunger that is trigger activated. But I can't tell the difference in the trigger pull of the 80 gun compared to the earlier gun. They both have very good trigger pulls. You'd need hands as sensitive as a safe cracker to be able to distinguish that extra little bit of moving metal in the trigger linkage.

I'll never understand why Colt didn't use the Swartz style safety they briefly used in the 1930s. It actuated off the grip safety instead of the trigger, and didn't affect the trigger pull. Kimber now uses the Swartz type safety, and I like it.

The US Government didn't want it in their pistols, Colt never brought it back after WWII.
