I know why it was dropped before WWII, but why didn't Colt revive it instead of designing the stupid one that worked off the trigger for the series 80s? Colt made some bad decisions in that time frame, and the company almost went under.

I don't know the official reason Colt did not revive the Swartz safety on the commercial models? Whether one design is better than the other is a matter of personal opinion, I prefer the Series 80 over the Swartz, I also know the fallacy of the belief that the Series 80 safety causes terrible trigger pulls. Yes indeed, Colt has made some very bad decisions over the decades, but introducing the Series 80 safety in 1983 isn't the reason Colt entered into Chapter 11 in 1992, it was the four year strike that began on January 25th, 1986.
