Reactive Targets: Saw Blades?

So I'm sitting here at work yesterday idly wondering what I could make some sort of reusable reactive targets out of and my eyes lit upon some old circular saw blades hanging from one of the many pegboards here in the shop (TV engineering).

"Hey... there's an idea"

Has anyone ever shot at one of those? I've got several old 7-1/2" and 10" blades at home. I may take a few to the range next time I go and throw some 9mm at them to see if they shatter, break, shoot back, or do something else undesirable. If they work, I may be on to something.

Since saw blades aren't heat treated(only the blade edges), you may just blow right through them. I wouldn't expect to have any return fire, but never count that out.

my guess would be a cross between shatter and break in half. just a guess though. I normally worked with metal cutting saws and when the harmonics hits those things just right they shatter real good

Just don't try to use them as skeet targets.

Being 1/8" steel, I wouldn't expect to hand them down to my grandkids or anything...I'm guessing that you'll be disappointed (bending from where they get hit to the mounting point).

I just had 25 mini-poppers laser cut from 1/2" steel. The face of the target cost $20.15 each--slightly more for smaller quantities. This doesn't include a base, but that's easy to fix--why not do that?

I expect they'll last long enough to generate some grin Certainly watch out for any ''returns''!

If you have access to some scrap and some welding gear try this idea. It's a copy of one I made years ago which got pretty shot up - in fact this one is now somewhat <cough> ''distorted" LOL.

I used some channel, chunks of 1/2" plate - all welded to the channel ''spokes'' which are onto a piece of tube, with gusset pieces for extra strength. That can rotate on a ground spike with pivot rod - after each hit you usually get a fresh face to shoot at.

Best kept for handgun plinking - .308's go straight thru!
