SA has no engineers?

Ok. So I am a soon to be engineer and was looking around at possible places to get a job (specifically gun manufacturers).
Anyways. I email springfield armory (as well as many others) with some general questions and this was my reply from SA:
---------
Thank you for your interest in Springfield Armory. Regretfully we do not
have an engineering department, nor do we employ an engineer at this
time. Most of our guns are built to spec according to long-standing
drawings/in-house standards. Please reply to this e-mail if you have any
questions.
---------
So my first reaction was ! SA has no engineers?
then i read more carefully and realized maybe they have an engineer or two but just doesnt have an engineering dept and arent looking for any engineers right now (but my email wasnt implying i wanted a job as an engineer there- i wanted general info about engineers there).
So i donno. Im confused

What about other manufacturers? I see you carry a Kimber Aegis. Nice pistol and I love mine! Have you tried them? Try calling Kel-Tec as they're coming out with new stuff all the time and they're still a fairly small company that might be expanding soon. Also, I wonder if gun manufacturers actually use "real" engineers or, rather, CAD/CAM type designers, etc...

Must be several manufacturers who could provide jobs for engineers, if they are into enough of systems aspect, PLC etc.

I doubt there is as much hands-on these days but - reckon you just gotta go thru em all and make contact.

I don't know if you'd be willing to relocate, but Sig seems to have an opening or 2 often enough you ought to be able to catch one. I was at a class led by Sig instructors earlier this year and speaking with them after the class they were adamant that it was a great place to work for all levels of employees. Plus its in NH, which after traveling quite a bit I think is still a pretty good place to live. Plus I'm sure you get a discount on their products

Heres a link to some of their openings-

Maybe not, their 1911 are made by IMBEL and the XDs are imported from Croatia.
