Getting guns to Alaska

I was wondering... Is there a legal way to transport firearms when driving from the lower 48 to Alaska? No way to avoid traveling through Canada. Can you have them checked to see that they are unloaded, locked, etc at the border?

It seems like there should be some sort of "peaceable journey" allowed for legal firearm owning US citizens to get from one parts of the US to another...

Yeah, I was wondering if a person could be a sort of "pre-approval" form or something.

Yeah, I know about going that route, but it can get expensive. Again, my original premise was driving them through Canada and if there were a legal way to do it...

Before you go through Canada, go to this website: http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/factsheets/visitin_e.asp

See Option 1

Form 909 for 3 or less firearms, form 910 for 4 or more...

So it CAN be done, but dang is that ever restrictive. They actually ban the all powerful .25 and .32 calibers in handguns?!?

Also, any handgun with a barrel less than 4.1"? Guess a lot of my CCW options would be a no go...
