.50 BMG owners
Guys - how the heck do you afford the ammo?!
Speaking this evening with a shooting buddy - and he was describing some shooting he did recently where a guy had a Barrett (the 10 shot semi I believe) - and had had to pay around $5 a pop for ammo from Ronnie. Cheapest he'd seen was what was probably Milsurp for Ma Deuce and that had maybe been belted - it was $2 a pop and, no guarantees either!! OD - is it you as one who owns and shoots .50 BMG? I guess if I had one (I still want!) - I'd reload but heck - can't be that many reloads to the pound of powder!! One very desirable rifle but - heck - spendy ain't in it!!

My buddy has one. Guess its all in what ya want to spend your money on. Fun to shoot, but pricey all right.

33 reloads per pound of powder. I mostly reload but can still buy Milsurp 100 round linked belts for around 150.00 at the gunshows here.
Awhile back I got an ammo can of 500 pulled API bullets for 70 bucks. A box of primers (500) cost about 70 bucks...but I recently bought another 500 for 17.00 because they had been sitting in a gun shop for so long that the owner just wanted to get rid of them. It is so much fun to shoot that I am building another...in fact I just came out of my shop doing just that. This will be a lightweight .50 that has all of the best attributes of several designs and it will have a 10 shot magazine. Im going to try to keep it around 15-16 pounds. For those interested, you can see the progress with pictures here... http://www.homegunsmith.com/cgi-bin/...ST;f=3;t=19045 I love the .50. Personally, I think everybody ought to own one just to scare liberal polticians. After shooting the .50 awhile, every other caliber just seems so.....minor. ![]() ![]()

One day, one day. Unfortunately, there are still several other guns that I want first, and I try to get a good stock of ammo for each weapon. So, it will be a while.

Your project looks great - and some nice machining going on ... I'll try and follow that as you progress.

P95...
the reloading isnt so bad...I can still get milsurp 5010 powder for around 25 bucks for 8 pounds...some of the cheapest powder out there at gun shows. As for the project...thanks for the compliments. I get tired of the shellholder design where you have to remove the bolt to place a shell in it. After studying some of the various designs out there, making a regular bolt action isnt that hard to do.Well see what the final weight will be...

My brother has one. First, he doesn't shoot it very often because there aren't a LOT of ranges that are .50 BMG compatible. But when/where he can shoot it he either reloads or buys his ammo in SERIOUS bulk and it lasts him about two years.

I saw .50 surplus here at the last machine gun shoot for a buck a round.
It didn't last long. I saw crates of it going out the gate. I would also like to have one... just need to figure out how to conceal it. ![]() ![]() At the last MGS I also saw a 20mm bolt action rifle. Reload those babies! ![]()
