Just used my Citi card the other day for my new Kel Tec. It's already in the mail too!

I thought we had a thread on this when it first happened?

Well... never mind that but...

Here is the story I heard on this whole thing. Now... take this with a grain of salt but...

I heard that the incident that prompted all this was that someone ordered like 30K worth of guns from CDNN. To be sent to an FFL for the buyer. The buyer then retrieved (Transfered) a few but then never went back for the rest and then initiated a claim with Citibank for return of his funds. And so CDNN was contacted (as the vendor) for the claim. And, of course, CDNN could not show that this "Joe Blow" was shipped guns.

The FFL eventually boxed up the guns and returned them to CDNN, but the buyer got out with the few guns he had transfered. But what then happened was Citibank had frozen the account because of a large claim filed against it and was investigating it. And being as how guns cannot (often or normally) go straight to the buyer it was difficult to show the buyer got what he paid for. Hence the return of the remaining guns. But this opened up a whole can of worms for the credit card company as to how to deal with a claim for an item that would not go directly the buyer. And I never heard what the disposition of that whole thing was. I was told that, not only was Citibank investigation the charge back, but that BATFE (and perhaps other agencies too) was also investigating the buyer for a possible Fraudulent transaction.

I have heard no more of it since then. And I don't know exactly if all of this is true. Some of it is as some of it comes from some stuff CDNN put out themselves.

I am not certain it is a direct attempt by Citibank to be anti gun. I am wondering if its a terms of service issue being as how guns do not go directly into the hands of the buyer so making it difficult for the contract vendor to prove something in case of a charge back claim. It could be just a large misunderstanding.

Fine; from now on when I change credit cards, I will inquire as to their stance regarding legal firearms purchases. If they don't allow it, they don't get my bidness, as we say here in Texas.....

I use money orders. It takes a little longer, but there is no hassle. Amscot doesn't charge for money orders and 7-11's only charge $.99. I call (or email), place the order, print the screen and send it with the money order. Painless, seamless and easy. Screw the credit card companies. With money orders, the CC companies don't have a record of your purchases either!

That make more sense than just pulling the account because of being an anti-gun. I suspect the fact that guns are bought and paid for ny one persone but shipped to a different person could cause some problems with chargebacks and claims.

Suppose CDNN ships the gun to a FFL and the buyer picks it up but files a claim that he never received the gun or that the gun was defective. CDNN then has to contact the FFL for verification and he starts having to prove that he didn't do anything wrong. That $25 charge for a transfer starts costing the FFL a lot more than the $25 that he charged.

I was reading about this on another thread that is now closed, so I'll post something here. I was kind of concerned about this since I'm going to the Tulsa gun show this weekend.

One of my credit cards is a Citi/AAdvantage American Express Card. It seemed that in some of the earlier posts that "Citi Merchant" cards were causing a problem with gun purchases. I'm not sure if my card has anything to do with Citi Merchant so I just called customer service with my Citi card and they told me to use it for whatever purchases I wanted, "they" didn't have a firearm restriction.

I was prepared to cancel it if they had any sort of firearm restrictions, but according to them they don't. FWIW, I still don't know anything about the "Citi Merchant" cards, but it appears I'm okay with my credit cards.

They better not tell me how to spend my money
