The 10/22 is a decent little gun. I've had two. My main problem was that they were too "blah"- just nothing really exciting about them. The accessories and parts available are more common, and generally cheaper, now. As-is, the 10/22 is accurate and reliable with generally most anything. The stock is fine and comfortable. Sights are OK. For "out-n-about" I always prefer stainless to blued, but that's not overly critical, since basically only the barrel is steel.

If I were spending for my "Ultimax-SHTF-camping-do-it-all" .22 rifle, I'd get one of the composite or CF shrouded barrels; upgrade the trigger, maybe the bolt; a Butler Creek folding stock or a Hogue over-molded; extended mag release; XS Sights Dot and a Volquartsen scope base/ring set, and the red-dot, or 2-4x of your choice. Butler Creek or Ramline hi-cap mags.

Volq. and Power have "Sale" and "Bargain Bin" areas that are worth watching. I just got a Volq trigger for my new MkII for $6- retail/Brownells price of $27.95. Sometimes you'll find SS receivers(one was up for $125 on Volq's site yesterday, normally $225, IIRC), etc., etc.. Just depends on what you want to spend. You can definitely turn it from a 100 yd "lobber" into something boringly accurate, for $200-300 in accsys.

I only know two - at one club - and they both seemed to have feed issues! That said I do know they are incredibly popular.

My choice tho is for marlin 60 - 15 round tube mag and providing crud gotten rid of now and again - ideal gun. I have a real ancient Herters scope on mine and it is all but a tack driver.

Been thrashed unmercifully this last 4 or 5 years - still love it and - at $100 from Wally World new when I got it - terrific value

Several friends and myself own 10/22's. Lots of game have fallen to our rifles. Heck, we used to put 1000 rnds thru em in 4 -5 days. They really hold up, are fun and easy to upgrade or modify. I took mine and with instructions from rimfirecentral, tuned the trigger and internals for better operation. The biggest drawback of the 10/22 is the heavy,gritty trigger out of the box.

I have a 10/22T target model with a heavy barrel, wood stock, match trigger. It's a tack driver, but stinking heavy!! Fun to shoot, but not real practical for stalking critters all day.

If I were going to do it again, I'd get a used plain jain one as cheap as I could and put on a composite stock and barrel combo and a high quality drop in trigger group.

IMHO the Ruger 10/22 is the best semi auto .22 I have ever owned.
I still have the Butler Creek 25 rounders that snap together and it pops off all 50 without a hitch.
But I have to digress, when it gets dirty(good ole .22 ammo) then it will gum up and have problems, but usually after a couple 2-300 rounds in a row.
