Realistically, regardless of whether we have McCain, Clinton, or Obama, with a Dem controlled Congress, things will pretty much freeze. The overall concept of "Proper Governance" for all three of them is "centralized control-the civvies do what they are told."
The UN already has a proposal controlling ammunition sales and weapons that Obam is strongly in favor of (as I would assume Clinton is), and I could see another "troop surge" to help burn up a few million rounds over 6-12 months to facilitate ending availibility for civvies.
It depends on what you have, and what you see yourself as "needing" (literally.) In a Rio de Janero-style socio-economic collapse, which is a real possibility, having a few working pieces, maybe a couple for trade, would be a genuine life-saver.
At $150/ea, you can already turn around and get $200/ea in a private sale, and have a complete rifle(+/-$400 for a nice upper). Mags are cheap & plentiful at the moment & ammo, while it has been better, isn't bad...
