Hey 45,we're not through with you yet. I don't own a Glock. I don't especially like the Glock:--trigger--ergonomics--looks--plas sis-sissity(that is really a word)I swear--and other things that I can't even put into words. My CCW and competition weapons are ALL 1911's. But for what it's worth,I have shot probably 350-500 rds. out of Glocks in 6 different configurations/calibers. They ALL(in my expierance) shoot well. They are strong, very sturdy, easy to get parts(but you will probably never need them) easy to modify, can wear all kinds of sights, there is an endless supply of accessories and support gear, and come in enough calibers to interest any body. I am close friends with 10 or 12 people that bet their life on them everyday. These guys are "independent contractors" working in far off places. The guys at my club that own them, love them. Glocks are just like 1911's in that you gotta love them to carry them. If you love the Glocks, buy one (in any caliber offered)and carry it. Just don't try to convince anybody that it's pretty.--------- P.S Let me know when they start making a mid size, single stack,in 10mm. If so,I take back everything that said.--------

Now that my brain seems to be re-engaged, a sigpro would be worth looking at too. I had mine out of the safe just the other day and was re-impressed with it. Nice DA and SA trigger; nice size; very competitive in cost; high quality.

you need to buy what you can shoot effectively. Or feels natural to ya. I don't hate Glocks , but they don't fit my hand as well as other pistols do. Lots of great options out there for carry.

Geez, just when it looks like I might run off at check into something other great ideas flow in, what a bunch of great shooters. Appreciate the hard effort, I am listing the thread so it will be simpler to ask for donations. Just kidding. Thanks very much guys.

First you need to see if a glock will point for you well... I seem to be a lucky personin that i can go froma glock to 1911 to wheelie and never lose point of aim.

if glock wont point then it wont shoot for you .. 2nd to look at the xd you can get 17 in it i think in the 4 inch version its round size of a Glock 19.

When i carry a Glock i carry the fullsize 17 the minis wont shoot for me i had the terrible exp with my 36 couldnt hit broad side of barn so it went..

But i can shoot the xd9mm subcompact just fine must be finger grooves... Hk is great to with the lem trigger feels different but nice till you get used to it (only shot 50 or so in a hk with lem)

As for sig no experance but now after spending lots of money on guns ole slabsides is what i pack 95% of the time

FortyFive I know how you feel man. Having so many personal and legal limitations on carry guns can shoe horn you into something you normally wouldn't be interested in.

I too was afraid I'd have to just get a Glock and learn to like it. But don't give up. Take a few months to explore what's out there, it's a huge market.

See there's a gun just to have a gun, and then there's a carry gun. A carry gun is a lot harder bill to fill.

I started with a list of about 12 possibilities for a primary carry gun and whittled them down on this board and from other sources until I found one I could live with and I'm happy with it, even though it doesn't excite me as much as some other guns do. But the fact remains it is a good carry gun and it just fits into my lifestyle.

Try making a list of 10-20 alternatives to the Glock and then whittling them down. It will take you a while.

Euc has that nailed!

Richard - I doubt I will ever want and buy a Glock - my SIG now is close to my carry "nirvana'' but - one thing I can say is that I know a good many folks who do carry, and often 19's, plus - many of those and 17's too get used in IDPA to VERY good effect.

Let's put it this way - if I was given a 17 or 19 - I would NOT turn it down! It may not ever be considered as my carry piece but I know I could enjoy shooting it enough to not let it grow hairs!!

I own a G17. I've been arrested with it too. :)

That said, Murphy strikes at unexpected times and places. I have one both to show to the 4H kids and to remain proficient in what may well be the weapon I happen to have available at the minute disaster strikes.

When I have the luxury of choosing, I'll bring my Sigs. When it's first gun to the finish line and I don't have time to grab something else, I have no religious preference with Sig, HK, Glock, Beretta, etc as long as they operate.

I'll wish I had my Sig, but....

Sold my SIG 229....bought a Glock 23...never looked back...it shot/pointed/felt "perfect" in my hands...and I love em to this day..

I currently carry a Glock 30 in .45....w/ 2 G21 13 round mags in a CTAC.

This is a highly personal decision...dont let ANYONE tell you buy this its great..or buy one of these cuz its ultra cool and costs $900...

Try to rent what you are looking at..and or borrow from friends before buying. You also need to keep in mind comfort, and cost of gear to start carrying a different pistol. Not to mention the time spent to get proficient enough to carry it.

If grip angle is an issue the Springfield XD is a little straighter. I have gone from a custom 1911 to a custom BHP to a G19L (http://www.concealedcarry.info/glock_chop.php) and the Glock is by far the best shooter for me.

Reliable, best shooter for me, and high capacity are the reasons I carry one.
