How to stipple.
I have an M&P and would like to learn how to stipple, using one of my extra grip panels. Is there anything more to it than using a soldering iron? Are there any tutorials or videos out there that teach how to do the various patterns? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have never heard of a how to video but several people here have stippled their guns. Another thought, kydex might be good to practice on before going at a grip panel.
If you need some scrap kydex I can mail you a piece or 2 (no charge).

What would you like to know? I've done two, and I'm not excited about the look, but the gun feels good.
I stippled up a couple of airsoft guns before trying anything serious. I used a soldering iron with a modified tip--the best result came from dragging it down the grip (gives a wood grain look). It's not hard, but you need a plan before you start. HK Dan

I got a cheap wood burning kit for my last birthday. It came with loads of tips and made some awesome textures. I got some wooden boxes to practice on before trying it on my gun. Check out your local craft store. You should find something for about 30 bucks, and practice material for about a dollar each. You can probably buy extra backstraps by calling Smith and Wesson.
I did a dry desert texture on my backstrap and fronstrap. I also did my pinky extensions. All i did was follow the contours of the previous pattern to etch them deeper. Used the very fine point tool. ![]() |
