I tried to purchase some 3/8 inch 4'X8' armor plate from the local metal dealer. Wow, talk about expensive. She said it would take $600 for 1 plate. I didn't check it out to see if it was some kind of real special armor. I was just hoping they had some scrap at a low price. No luck, I ended up at SW Metals scrap yard and found some 18" diameter 7/8" thick round steel and while it craters with .308 ball ammo it splashes pistol or 45/70 ammo when it hits. I can also fill up the crater with my Mig and grind it off flat afterwards. Some I've mounted on springs from a Hayme and others I just put hooks on top to hang over a steel real estate sign stuck in the ground. The swing and absorb a lot of the shock and are swinging to the back from the bottom to the top. That seems to direct the splash of lead down into the ground. Sure makes a satisfying sound when you hit it at a long range.

I assure you that the lead doesn't just go directly into the ground.

Is that your neighbor's house across the street there on the right?

Yep, that is the neighbors house. He is a banker that scammed a one legged farmer out of his property and built his house knowing which way I shoot. The house is actually farther away and to the right of where the range is. It's also not a public range. Only I shoot there so I have control of where my bullets go. Also the ground is very sandy. No rocks in the ground for ricochets.
