Notes from the Oregon Gun Show
Went to a gun show today. Here are some quick observations.
* The gun show was at the Expo Center. The Expo Center has several exhibition halls. I figured the one with all the police vehicles parked outside was where the gun show was being held. * I had to disarm. Of course, they did not bat an eye when I pulled out my gun, unloaded it and had a tie strap put in it. I asked about the ammo and I had to unload the magazine and put the magazine in one pocket and the cartridges in another. Whatever. I asked if I could carry it concealed and they said as long as it is "disabled", I can do whatever I want with it. * Only two people pointed a gun at me. At least that I noticed as I was talking directly to them. But it was OK because they were unloaded, right. ![]() * I got to compare a Kel-Tec to the Ruger LCP. There is a huge difference in quality. Sorry to the guys who own a Kel-Tec, but the Ruger is the one I am going to buy. * I could purchase a Ruger LCP today for $365 or $275 if I want to wait 2-3 months and travel 75 miles one way to pick it up. * One gun dealer was extremely rude to me. * Talked to two Glock armorers and learned a bunch about the care and feeding of a Glock. * I may start my own flashlight business. I talked to the Coast regional sales manager and we had a very enlightening conversation. He thinks Surefire and Streamlight are very good flashlights but his brand beats them in terms of operational cost effectiveness. * There was an assortment of pink rifles and all the girls were playing with them. * There was a guy selling t-shirts. One was a baby shirt that said, "Don't make my mommy have to shoot you". I wanted to send one to Lima but I don't have her address. * Clips and magazines are the same. Sorry, JD, but I talked to the woman/owner behind the table and she said, "Yes, yes, I know, but if I put up magazines, all the guys ask where the Playboys are." ![]()

Well, the PDX gun shows have sure changed since my time.
Where were the beef jerky vendors? Where were the survivalists? Was there nobody selling copies of the Anarchist's Cookbook? Incredible! ![]() Only one dealer was rude to you? What, are they giving sensitivity training to the vendors now? ![]() What's the admission fee nowadays? Last time I went, it was $8.00.
