I've noticed the "influx trend" around lately with the ccw/chl permits and that folks seem to be attributing it to the upcoming elections, but really the logic of the concept makes no sense.
If they're getting their permits because of the upcoming elections one would assume at least some percentage of that group was doing it because they thought the winner of the elections would end up with enough support to kill the permits or re-enact some sort of outright ban on firearms at the federal level. If that were the case do they really think their existing permits would be "grandfathered" in? Another question would be...What good is your permit if the federales have already taken your guns post election? Real Geniuses says I! ![]()

The election won't scare me that much; I think the Heller decision not going our way worries me more. Personally, I think Heller is the most important piece of this puzzle, not the election.
What is aggravating to me is all of the price gouging that will occur because of the fearmongering concerning the election. It has brought out a lot of speculators who are buying up all kinds of guns and ammo for no real reason, other than to bet on the fact that they won't be as available tomorrow. This, in turn drives the prices up out of sight. It is exactly what is happening to fuel prices right now. This is a phenomenon illustrated on Glenn Becks' show tonight regarding the price of Oil. About 3 years ago, a stock broker buddy told me to watch out because oil prices were going to skyrocket. When I asked why, he told me that speculators had entered the energy market and were using "hedge funds" to begin a systematic bidding up of energy futures in order to raise the price of oil and reap greater profits. This is something the Oil companies had almost no control over, as this was driven purely by big-time speculators and investors who were raising the prices by gobbling up every surplus they could find, then selling it at higher prices. I was a fool for not listening to my friend and investing in some of that.........

Well I'm trying to stockpile. . . but I need to get a damn job :D
I don't know about the whole ammo thing. . . I mean I've bought a good bit, but I think the prices will come down in the future. Buying now is buying high. It might take a year, two, or three, but basic economics requires the price to come back down to equilibrium. My main fear is not being able to buy AK's and the like. Ammo and handguns I don't think will come under fire. . .except for maybe the standard capacity mags they use. |

Pondering my choices and 2009....
I took the plunge and have begun the process of picking up an Stag AR-15( a model 2 if I recall correctly). I would like to aquire another rifle and a pistol before 2009. I am weighing my options and would like them both to be semi-automatic. The options I am weighing:
1. Another AR-15 2. An AK-47 3. An FN-FAL or 4. AR-10(DPMS jumps to mind) I am really leaning towards a larger caliber for hunting and defense(in case I need to turn cover for the bad guys into concealment). For the pistols 1. A Glock 17 2. A CZ P-01 or P-06 3. A 1911 style pistol or 4. a Glock 21. I have a few 9mm pistols one .40 S&W and 2 .45 ACP pistols. Just wanting to keep calibers that will be easy to come by in the future. Your thoughts on this and where to aquire quality mags for the rifles would be most welcome. |

I have various weapons also........my thoughts are to just stock up on ammo until 2009. If the election goes bad it will take some time to lock down gun or ammo buying. I can spend a lot of money between Nov. and Jan.

Another battle rifle in .308 could be a good thing to have.
It could be an AR, HK, M1A1,FN anything as long as it is magazine fed. The HK and the HK clones have the cheapeast 20 round mags. You can still get them for 3 or 4 bucks.

personally, I'd pick one rifle platform (AR, AK, FAL, etc.) and one pistol platform (I prefer Glock because of the reliability, cheap parts, and relatively cheap mags) and focus on stocking up on ammo and mags for those platforms. Since you already have an AR (and if you're convinced you need a "battle rifle") why not buy another upper like a .308 or 6.8spc.
Not saying you should sell off everything else, just pick one or two that will be your bug-out/TEOTWAWKI guns rather than trying to diversify now.

"panic buying"??
i just picked up a yugo AK over the internet because i cannot find them in town. I visited a local gun store by me and the guy attributed the lack of product and inability to get certain weapons to the election. It seems to be a common theme lately. the availability of certain weapons comes at an increased cost...i picked mine up for $499, but i have seen prices nearing $700.00
My wife was to get me the AK for Christmas, but after realized its rarity and popularity, we decided to get it now...

I think that a lot of people are worried about the possibility that Obama might win the Presidency. While his current radio ad says that he won't take our guns, he has been in favor of a complete ban of handguns, he's against concealed carry by private citizens, banning semiautomatic rifles. etc. Now, it will take a little time to get it through Congress, but I doubt that the Republicans
could stop it. Then, after it's passed and signed, it will be tied up in court for quite awhile. just the same, I've accelerated my gun buying plans. Just picked up a Glock 30, and while I already have an AR15, and 2 shotguns, I have several long guns, and more hand guns to buy (I only have 5). Then there's ammo. I've also increased my stock, and will buy more. But after the first Tuesday in November, it's quite possible that prices will continue to rise. |
