Indeed.......who knows what might disappear first? Ammo or the gun? Hopefully (not when, but after) when the SHTF, some of us will still be the people we are today. Right here, right now. Concerned citizens and with similar ideals. Hopefully intelligent enough to rise above the forthcoming panic and stay clear of it's path. Barter and trade will be our venue. If one has ammo, one may trade for gun. If one has gun, can trade for ammo. If one has ammo, one can trade for food. If one has food, one can trade for gun. Food, ammo, water, guns, etc........ Our stock market vs theirs. Only the strong survive. Forget cash, cash money will be nothing but fuel for heat in the winter months. Some have spent their small fortunes on large homes and SUV's, state of the art electronics and creature comforts. All of those will be useless in the future that's coming to bear. I should say no more.

Question

OK, here's my dilemma. As much as I agree with most everyone on this site regarding our ability to practice our sport and protect us and our families, we are all law abiding citizens. I hear a lot of folks talking about hiding this, stockpiling that, etc. How do we continue to be law abiding citizens if they change the laws and the weapons and ammo we have become illegal? This is driving me crazy. I'm relatively new to this addictive new lifestyle so I think many of you can understand my concerns.

I've been stocking up on brass, bullets, powder and primers and picked up an AR-10T .308 to go with my Bushmaster .223. Added to that I now have a few thousand rounds to back them up. I've been working up the best possible long range loads I can also. I did screw up and shoot my chronograph. You would think that after 30 years of shooting over them I'd be past that but a moments inattention and I ended up having to get a new one.

I've got three handguns on layaway now but they're really more "want" than "need." I've got all the guns I really need to fill most foreseen circumstances, whether that be for carry, home defense or hunting for food. What I'm mostly focusing on right now is ammo for the stash, spare mags and stuff like that.

I also bought a new camp stove and propane earlier this week and a little more food supplies than I normally would, along with getting extra cash out for the emergency fund. Nothing major, just a little extra of what we usually buy anyway. With the financial market on such shaky ground lately, I think we have to be ready for just about anything, not just a future gun grab.

Glenn Beck has a bit on his program about this yesterday. people are genuinely scared about the prospects of a gun grabber in the white house.

Each and every one of us will rely solely upon our morals and our faith in this case Jerry. If "they" make these things illegal for law abiding citizens.......are "they" not doing so illegally? If our constitution gets trashed and burned by the powers that be, then do we have a nation deserving of our loyalty and subservient attitude? Your worries may be genuine about any normal, upstanding American citizen being pencil whipped into a criminal at any time. For me, there is something greater to answer to than the bureaucracy......and that is God. God is who I will have to ultimately answer to. Don't mean to force my religious views, but even if one doesn't believe in God.....we all have to answer to ourselves for our actions at the very least. Living with our consequences of our decisions or actions is really the only thing we have to worry about in the future. Let your conscience be your guide. I hope this eases some of your concerns.

+1 Ram Rod...

If possession of guns/ammo are declared illegal (you know, those evil bullets that penetrate bulletproof vests, basically any rifle round) that is contrary to the U.S. Constitution, the supreme law of the land.

For me, my protest starts at the ballot box...

This is probably going to cause some problems, but bear with me here as I'm just trying to make a point, and sometimes the point needs to come from a red-hot poker....

What if they outlaw sex with your wife? The same questions can be asked...Rather outrageous yes, but it applies.

One of my favorite Ayn Rand quotes;

Quote:
"There is no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." …Ayn Rand

I'll be buying more guns and ammo anyway, even if nothing happens, it'll mean I'll have lots of hours bought for me at the firing ranges indoor and outdoor, and plenty of nice weekends for "stress relief". I just started on shooting targets for fun a few months ago.

However, guns and ammo aside, there are issues that do leave me feeling like I should become VERY prepared for the future concerning our presidential election this year. So I am preparing to bug out or bug in, whichever the case may be. I'm spiritually and mentally ready, but as far as the tools go, that is a project of mine. However, many have reached a point that that is their life right now, I'm not forgetting to live my life, so I do leave money space for fun as well in the mean time.

I won't say much for the issues, but I can see there's a lot of potential for gloom and doom in the future, and I want to be prepared to take care of myself, I don't need any handouts from the gubment' as I am responsible for myself, and not an overgrown child who needs to be taken by the hand and told what to do.
