Don't know about Arkansas, but in my state, you do NOT have the right to see the radar unit. Period.

I remember, when I was a lot younger, I got pulled over for doing 52 in a 30 The officer was pretty cool about it, of course I was being as polite and respectful as possible because it was the first time I'd been pulled over. But he even offered to let me see the radar gun.

As for the folks that are saying he should just forget it...

I have to wonder how the rest of us would act in a similar situation. If in fact he was only going 58, why should he have to pay for going 70? That's just a freakin lie from someone we're supposed to trust. And if, as he said, he informed the officer calmly that he couldn't have been going that fast, and politely asked to see proof, that is no reason to cuff him and take him to jail. So what would you do? You've just been cuffed after politely asking to see proof that what the officer just told you is true, when you know it isn't. It's even on the radar gun. You are jammed (still cuffed) into the back seat, your pants get ripped, and you wait in a hot car with the windows rolled up for an hour. You're then taken to jail. You have to pay for 12 miles per hour more than what you should have to. Whether that's a big deal or not isn't the point. You are then threatened with all sorts of things. After that you have to pay a towing bill and find a way back to your truck?

I appluad the OP. I'm afraid I wouldn't have the patience in a similar situation.

Who or what is "the OP"?

An obvious abuse of power, there was a case where a cop would use his position of power to rape women... such people need to be dealt with harshly.

I've got a nifty little computer for my vehicle. It plugs directly into the data link connector. It gives the speed, engine rpm, throttle position ect. I do alot of driving. So when I go some where for work I bring it with me. If I so much as see a cop, I press record data. It records about five minutes worth of time stamped information. I can hook it up to a computer and print out the info. It will show how fast I'm going. I'm not sure it would help me in court, but it's still nice to have. I can see why check engine lights come on. I think you should persue the matter. I have alot of respect for the good cops out there and none for the ones that abuse their power. Personally, As soon as they told me I could go, I would have filed a complaint right then and there. Good people should not have to fear the police. I would definitely call and check for the records. He may have charged you with more offences than you even know. Good luck.

BTW, I know in some states you do not have the right to see the radar gun, But you did. I would make sure that it was known. I would have signed the ticket, but I would have driven straight to the police department afterwards and filed a complaint.

I had an officer pull me over... doing 41 in a 40..... and said I was doing 41 in the previous 20 mph zone... (it was BS). Went to court, realized about 80% of 200 people in there were protesting tickets written by this officer, and all telling the judge that "he had lied". Ok, I'm near to the last person. I plead "not guilty" and asked the Judge to order the DA to subpoena all of those people to my hearing as witnesses. The DA tried to "tell" the Judge .. he refused to do it, which ticked off the Judge. When asked, I said .. to "testify as to the credibility of this officer". She granted it and made an order for the subponeas.

The DA was in contact with me right after we walked out, angry as hell, and also in 2 days.... when he wanted to drop everything related to the ticket.... of which I argued he couldn't do that as I wanted my day in Court and this guy "exposed" . He had the ticket 'dismissed". I was disappointed.

So, we are coming up on three weeks. Was gibt's neues? Got any word back? To those who wonder why Duis is in a tizzy, I'm guessing it's been awhile since someone in authority unfairly walked over you. It took a couple days for me to calm down on that silly WallyWorld incident last month and that was chump change compared to this.

So Metro, are you saying that the radar gun was not indicating our friend here was violating the law with that displayed speed but that the officer was instead? It has to be one or the other right? Or does the display really not mean anything at all?

i've been trying to find a way to record data from my GPS onto my computer to find a few shortcuts when i go home on weekends. seems such a device would be useful in this situation as well.
