Oregon/sound supressors

I was just on AR15.com looking at this gun porn thread AR15.COM :: Forums :: Oregon Gun Porn and was just wondering why/how almost all these people have supressors? Do they all have tax stamps or are they just legal there?

Thanks, Jack

The tax stamp is a federal requirement, so presumably, they all have the stamps.
Oregon allows suppressors, with a sign off from (IIRC)a county chief LEO, and adherence to federal laws.

ATF Form 1 & $200. Currently takes 60 to 90 days to get your stamp. Of course you still have to pay for the suppressor. There may be Oregon requirements as well.

FYI - I saw a table with a guy selling them at a local gun show recently in DFW. I asked the guys about it. They told me that they even help you fill out the paperwork & that if you qualify for a CHL in Texas you should have no problem. They said the ones they were selling for Glocks ran about $900.

You would also need a threaded barrel.

Right on the money for Oregon even here in the Portland Metro area the area is extremely gun friendly...

A Form 1 is for a suppressor that you make yourself. You pay $200 for the tax and whatever it costs you to make it.

A Form 4 is for one that you by at a gun shop, made by a commerical manufacturer that is registered to do so.

The rules are the same except that you must engrave name, address and a serial number that you assign to it on the can.

Wow, $900 for a little muffler. Way too much money for what it is. While I wouldn't mind having one it just gives the ATF a reason to come into your house to check the supressor out. I'd rather try to make my own. At least that would be a good way to spend the money on a lathe. By the way is it not legal to have extra washers for your supressor?

Technically, its not.

Suppressors around here run anywhere from 300 to around 1000.

The one I built was tested against one that was a bit over $1000 and mine was quieter.

Go figure.

What does an extra washer do? Make it quieter?
