New Ruger SingleSix

My wife just asked me if I would like a Ruger Single Six .22LR/22WMG for father’s day. She knows I have been looking to get one for years, as a much needed cheap shooter. I was thinking about a 5.5" barrel, what do you all think? I will be mainly using it to target shoot, but will occasionally be using it on rabbits and other varmints. I am so excited, my wife rocks!

Nice, on my list of things to get.

I have a 5.5" Uberti .45LC SAA clone, I think it is a good barrel length, nicely balanced (don't know about with a .22), and accurate. I would look at both a 5.5 and 4.75 and see which one feels better in your hand, but I doubt you could really go wrong with either.

Got one , great piece for plinkin and huntin bunny's and squirrels and such it's the 5.5 barrel, one of the fiber optic sight co.'s makes a direct replacement front FO sight for it that comes with 3 diff. color tubes, I think mine was 24.00 + shipping maybe Hi Viz. It was well worth it greatly improved my aquasitioning to the target, course I'm a old fart.

That's the exact same one I have. The 5.5 barrel length in my opinion is perfect and feels very balanced. It's one of the most fun guns I own. I put the Williams Fire Sights on mine as for me, it helps in target acquisition tremendously. The only problem with those is they sit a little higher than the OEM sights and it is a tighter fit in my holster.
MidwayUSA - Williams Fire Sight Set Ruger New Model Single Six Fiber Optic Green

One thing you'll definitely want to get is this spring kit. It lightens your trigger pull and smooths everything up in general.
MidwayUSA - Wolff Shooter's Spring Pack Ruger Bisley, Blackhawk, Single Six, Super Blackhawk, Vaquero

And now for a chance to pimp some pictures. The first is the stock gun and the second is with the fiber optic sights.

A Ruger Single Six was my very first handgun (back before the Earth cooled). It's an outstanding revolver and a great way to practice -- and lots of fun for small game hunting, too. I think the 5-1/2" barrel is just about ideal. My next handgun was a Blackhawk. Sold them both in time of need and have regretted it ever since. You just can't go wrong with one of these SAs.
