Changes to come at about 1,100 Wal-Mart stores selling guns include:
  • Creating a record and alert system to record when a gun sold at Wal-Mart is later used in a crime. If the purchaser of that gun later tries to buy another gun at Wal-Mart, the system would alert the sales clerk of the prior buy and could refuse to make the sale.
  • Retaining the recorded images of gun sales in case law enforcement wants to view them later as part of an investigation.
  • Expanding background checks of employees who handle guns and expanding inventory controls.
“The costs are, we think, part of what it takes to be responsible. Everything is not pain-free,” he said, adding that small sellers can implement many of the same rules. He did not say how long it would take to implement all the changes, but noted that software must still be created for an internal log of guns later used in crimes.

Suarez said his company may receive some pressure from gun rights groups, but added, “This is not a signal that we’re getting out of firearms.”
I don't see anything they are doing (listed above) that causes me, or other responsible (legal) gun owners, any problems. I think it's a feel good measure and don't believe that it will necessarily prove beneficial, but they are a private company allowed to make decisions that benefit their company and it's stockholders.

I believe that the Wayne LaPierre hit the nail on the head when he said:
“I honestly think it’s a corporation trying to curry favor with politicians as opposed to doing anything meaningful about stopping crime.”
I also believe that they may believe it will help them mitigate the problem of anti-gun people that won't shop there because they sell guns. It's pretty well known that the government has been messing with Wal-Mart for quite a long time.

Me, I will continue to shop at Wal-Mart until they discontinue selling guns and ammo and begin posting no weapon signs....

+1. It's sad that Wal-Mart has 'aligned itself with mayor bloomberg'. But like others have said, where else can you get everything you need in one place that pretty much every town in America has? Besides, the point is to get you out there and used to people being around you while you're carrying. A 'local gun store' is too safe. If you were to print or get exposed there I doubt anyone would care or even say anything. And the day wal-mart puts up a 'no concealed weapons' sign I will start shopping else where'. Just my $0.02.

My son was adamantly anti Wal-Mart for many years and refused to shop there. Then he got married and became a parent and suddenly, with a family to support, Wal-Mart's prices started looking pretty good!

It boils down to this...

Disagree all you want, but that's what it boils down to.
They are trying to interfere with your rights. They are aligning their policies with an anti-gun mayor. One more step at taking your right to carry away. What more do you want?
Look I understand that they may have cheaper groceries or whatever and you have to consider your overall household expenses. That is not the real point. The point is this tradition of going there the first time you carry legally and buying ammo and nachos. That has nothing to do with your household expenses. You can at least do that elsewhere. Why don’t you?

No they wouldn’t. They know we are a demographic they want to sell to. They want their cake and eat it too and a lot of people are allowing them to do this. A lot of gun owners don’t even know about their policy.

Nobody is telling you where to shop...

They have taken guns out of stores around here. They have stated they back Mayor Bloomberg and his anti-gun policy but will still sell guns at some stores. Seems contradictory to me but they are not stupid. If it makes them a buck they will do it.
My question is do you really need to buy nachos and ammo there when you first get your carry permit? Wouldn’t it make sense to at least in this instance buy them elsewhere?

What exactly....

BTW- I get a 10% discount on my ammo, too.
Am I "uninformed" about?
