I have only done this when I absolutely had to. Normally, there is a wife or kids with me, so someone is designated 'car guard'.
However, now that I have my new main dog (rather than one of my emergency backup dogs), I can make him 'car guard' when needed. He's very enthusiastic about the job.

as a member of a tactical team, I often have a shotgun & or AR-15 locked securely in the trunk of my car. They are my personal weapons but kind of has to be done. I am debating getting a locked long arm container to be bolted inside the trunk for extra security.

I do every now and then.
As far as vehicle theft, I drive an almost 15 year old diesel Chevy Suburban. With diesel closing in on $5.00 per gallon and a whole parking lot to choose from, who in their right mind would want it?

I have left my gun hidden in my car while going into no gun zones like banks. But otherwise they are either in a holster, a fanny pack or a specially designed gun purse and they go in with me.
When I go to church I can't carry it inside. I hide it in the trunk of my car. It worries me sometimes at night. But I don't want to come back to my house without a gun on me. |

My EDC stays in the car when I go to places that are posted no guns or weapons allowed.
When returning from the range with several guns I head straight home, unless it is an emergency of course.

WOULD YOU LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN IN THE CARIf you have to leave a gun in the car try to secure it,remember the thread about what do you do with gun locks, how about keep one or more in a vehicle to secure your forearm to a seat post,or bolt an eye bolt under the seat to run the cable thru then thru the gun frame,it would be cheap and hole in floor could be plugged later if car is sold,in my suv the rear seats flip up and would be a great spot for the eye bolt, before drilling look to make sure you will miss any electrical or brake lines
