Easy...INSIDE another gun safe that is part of a vault inside a guarded compound...

I think RamRod had the best answer first...mine is inside a closet, secured to rebar attached to our foundation. If you wanna' haul my guns off, you'll need to have the ability to haul my house with it.

I keep my safe in a closet in the spare bed room, concealed by a sliding door. It can hold 12 long guns and several pistols. I also have a mini vault in my bedroom that holds my ready gun.

Our safe is in our bedroom about two and a half feet from my side of the bed (soon to be JD's side of the bed when baby gets here (I have a weird thing about not sleeping on the same side as a closet (something about sleeping next to a closet disturbs me), but sacrifices must be made, eh? anyway...)). It makes for very easy access should anything go wrong and it looks pretty good in my opinion.

Of course we live in an apartment and we may change things when we get into a house but I'm thinking that even if we were in a house I would still like the safe in the bedroom for that ease of access and control. It's really nice to roll out of bed and get what you need without even having to wipe the sleep out of your eyes.

We have a small 2 handgun safe that is in the corner of our walk in closet. I put it in the corner so I could bolt it to 3 seperate studs from the inside at the same time. It is behind our hanging clothes so you only see it if you remove about 100 pieces of clothing but we know where to throw our hands through to thumb print it fast and pull out the guns if we have to. It's not ideal but it was either a second gun for the wife and a cheaper safe or a really nice safe and no gun for the wife.

Put it out on your front porch and give me a call for free haul off. I need another one.

Edited to add---dont forget to write down the combination and put on the OUTSIDE of the safe.

Shoot, forget the gun; grab the kid and squirt either end at the BG. That is MUCH worse than an overdose of lead, and cheaper.

Call a concrete sawing company and bury it flush with the floor. Then cover it with a rug and piece of furniture. Safe companies have vertical vaults just for this. Make sure it's moistureproofed first!

My safe is still in the showroom, so anyplace you place yours at your residence is probably better.

That said, I do have a few storage lockers. One of my favorite "safes" was built into a sleeper sofa (sleeper part removed). Currently moving into a new house and the safe will be directly off of the man cave (in a dedicated closet).

Ours is in the office (3rd bedroom) closet. Not sure it is the *best* place, but it is about the only place for it in our house.

Funny Story:

Christmas of 2006 my Dad was sooo proud of himself. He'd bought the best gift ever for his two girls and thier husbands. "Something everyone should have!" Now, you have to understand that my Dad ~never~ buys gifts. He gives cash. He figures you know what you want better than he does. So you can imagine how monumental this was...

We celebrated Christmas in the usual way- dinner with Dad and his wife, my sister, me, our husbands and my Grandfather. Afterwards we adjourned to my grandfather's house to exchange gifts. Dad wants to go last. We've been betting on what our gifts could be- a nice grill? how about a generator? "Something everyone should have."

Dad takes us out to his truck, opens the cover.....and shows us..... gun safes?!?! Not just any gun safe- this sucker is like 5.5 feet tall. It's HUGE and it weighs 9 tons (well, maybe not really, but when we moved it sure seemed like 9 tons)!

Gotta love my Dad- he is certainly unique :).

Any suggestions.
