By the time I realized the necessity of a gun safe our little house was already bursting at the seams with all the junk we had collected throughout nearly 45 years of marriage. As it turned out the only place we could shuffle furniture to accommodate it was in the master bedroom. Of course that didn't sit too well with the wife, but she finally gave in to the idea. The only concession that I had to make was to never again have a say about anything (and I do mean anything) regarding the house, except routine maintenance, repairs, etc.

But now whenever we are both away from the house for any length of time, my mind is much more at ease.

The question is, what's the weakest link? If your windows are completely unsecured, I agree that there's no real point in spending money on bump-proof locks.

But take my place for instance.
I coughed up the cash for a big roll of ShatterGuard film and did almost all of my lower-floor windows (minus the bathroom window, which is too small to climb through anyway, and I didn't have enough to do the top foot of the sliding glass doors).
I also reinforced my doorframes and hinges. (Yes, I'm a little paranoid).
So in my situation, the locks might actually be the weakest link, and it would make sense for me to get good locks.
That might not be the case for everyone, of course.

By the way, if you haven't looked at ShatterGuard, check it out:

Peace,
Pete Zaria.
Is this film bonded to frame of the window? Or is it just a thick film?

If not bonded, why waste the money? Just smash it and push the entire piece of glass out of the opening.

I worked for a glass shop, and we installed the real safety film. Bonded to all frames. We set up a demo, as we also built store fronts. Once bonded correctly, it was not going anywhere, unless you drove through it.

ON topic, my new safe will be here soon according to Bud's, my closets aren't big enough to hold it, without demo'ing the walls, and rebuilding around it. I am guessing the attached garage will be it's new home. I plan on bolting it to the cement slab, and building a shelving/cabinet unit around it. Out of site, out of mind.
