Where is the best place to put a gun safe?
I am thinking I need to upgrade my gun safe. Currently I have a real cheapo that had the intended use of keeping the kids away from the small number of handguns I owned.
But now, the kids are grown and so has my arsenal. I am thinking of getting a much better safe, but I am not sure where to put it. I have a one story ranch with 4 bedrooms and a garage. No basement. I want to place in somewhere where normal visitors won't see it, but I am not sure where? Any suggestions.

I keep mine in my bedroom closet.
I guess it is going to be determined by how large of a safe you get. Mine is more a cabinet than the true safe, but I have a long gun on the bottom, a pistol bolted to the top of it, and a quick access (key code) pistol safe bolted to a closet shelf. All in my bedroom closet.

I'd put it in a closet then. Think like a thief, that should give you some good ideas pertaining to your particular home. Try to find a place that would be tough to work on the safe, or get it on a pallet jack and haul it away.
Before I was in the home I'm in now, I had mine in the spare bedroom closet. It was a tight fit, but it was out of sight and it has a PIA to get out when I moved.

Good point that I forgot to mention... definitely bolt it down. It's great if your house sits on a slab, if not, just beef up the framing under the floor and make something really solid to anchor to.

Also, don't place it next to an exterior wall. There have been a few cases of would be robbers in your area who have stolen the entire safe by cutting through the exterior wall and flopping it into a pickup.
Usually one of the thieves involved had prior knowledge of the safe. That also leads to another item. Keep your safe out of sight, and don't show it off to anyone who you don't absolutely trust. Same goes for your children's "friends".

I keep my safes in a dedicated room, with a vault door, behind a book case, bolted to the concrete slab and the walls. The room's walls are properly reinforced.
