Do you pay to get your gun registered

I am in Michigan. the last two pistols I have bought I took up to the sheriffs office to register and had to pay $5.00 bucks. I don't mind so much but someone said I should not be charged?

I don't think you should have to pay either but I live in a free state (so far). I suspect they can charge a reasonable fee to doing the paperwork, even freedom of information act requests can have fees associated for the cost of materials, copying/etc.

I thought that MI did away with the registration process, just recently...

Registration fee? = Unfair fee for an unfair regisration.

None of that gargage here in FL...

I have to register my pistols in Van Buren county, on the west side of the state. There is no fee to register, but a fee for your permit to purchase or cpl. My instructor told me that the whole gun registration thing was being fought over.

MI does have a pistol permit registration fee. Pistols must be registered.

Aint that some crap.

You got to pay to REGISTER a handgun that they require registered?

You people need to change the laws(and the people that make them) up there and get in line with the rest of the free states where there is no registration.

It ain't registration

They call it a safety inspection, and it is up to the individual departments if they want to charge, but no they are not suppose to. N yes we do have legislation underway to do away with the green card.
