I practice in my back yard with a gas-blowback BB gun. It's not terribly accurate, but neither am I. I've definitely gotten better at avoiding flinching.

Not really, you should see my last range target, the guy is peppered everywhere. I might as well have shot with my eyes closed.

That would lead to another thread titled "bullet holes in ceiling".

The secret to shooting a handgun is that there is no secret. Learn all you can about the basics and practice, practice, practice. By all means take a basic handgun course. But remember this is the same as taking a white belt lesson in martial arts. The skills you learn at any school need to be practiced, tested and often relearned at a later date. No quick fix do everything you can to get better. Brace yourself for the long haul. Here are some articles and videos to get you started, but do seek professional training.

Stance(I prefer isosceles)

Try doing some of theses things and see if you get different results. Start by drawing a circle about the size of a mans head, and then draw a dot in the center. Start very close to the target, about one yard away. Draw and fire one shot, scan and holster. Repeat several times. Your shot should land just under the dot on the target. Remember that point of aim is not point of impact, due to the fact that your barrel sits about a half inch under the sights. Remember to ask more questions.
