To answer the one above question.
Nearly all modern high quality firearms can be safely dry fired without causing any physical damage to the firearm.

There was a case several years ago where 2 cops were seeing who could outdraw the other one,this is in days of the revolver carry gun,I believe IIRC they unloaded their guns and were drawing and firing at each other,at some point they stopped and one of them reloaded his revolver at some point the other guy not realising the other guy had loaded his weapon yelled draw and the guy drew and put a 158 grn hollowpoint com in the guys chest,one cop was killed and the other one was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.If you are going to dry fire your weapon double check to make sure it is unloaded,most autos will fire without a magazine inserted so make sure magwell is empty check chamber and then practice,once you are done reload and holster.If I get distracted and leave to do something before I'm done I check magwell and chamber before proceeding.

In that situation, they were certainly violating the rule about not pointing your gun at anything you are not willing to destroy. In dry firing you still need to observe the rules. Checking to make sure it is empty is just an additional rule!

I'll agree with that although I have taken aim at the television, the clock, the lamp, and myself in the mirror before.
