You'll need it locked in a container or bag in the back part of the car, separate from the ammo. Definitely not in the glove box or console. No peacable journey law in CA that I know of. Lock it up, or just leave it home. Best bet for KALIFORNIA!

i just moved out of California! The glove box has been determined by case law to NOT qualify as a "locked container". Unfortunately, only lockable containers approved by the Cal DOJ are considered legal. I know, it is stupid, but if you want to play you have to play by the rules. Keep the ammunition separate from the gun (in a different locked case), and you will be fine!

I bought four of these, all keyed alike, to keep in various vehicles.
Center Of Mass Central You need to keep the firearm unloaded, in a locked case (glove box or console do not count as such per CA law), with the ammo ideally in a separate container. I say ideally since I believe that in a locked metal container, you could actually have a loaded magazine NEXT to the handgun and still be legal. But if you get a LEO with an agenda, distance works to your advantage. The locked container could be the trunk of your car, or any other locked area that is not accessible to the passenger section of the car. If an SUV, best to use the COM boxes or similar. |

That may be the best advice you're going to get.
