Took my wife to the range.

...for the first time.

Last month I bought my wife and daughter a membership at our local sportsman's club with an indoor range. Today was the first time she and I went to the range. I brought all 4 of my guns to show her. The Ruger 10-22 rifle, the Mossberg 12ga shotgun, the S&W .257 Mag revolver and the LCP. I showed her how each of them worked, and how to load them. We then took out the .22 rifle and went to the outdoor pistol range (strange as that may sound) because they had a set of knock down and reset targets that I thought would be fun for her to shoot at.

I took out the rifle, got ready to pop the clip, and realized that I had left the clip in the gun case. D'oh! Then I remembered that we could load them by hand one at a time. So I loaded it up, aimed and bang a dish went down. Then my wife tried. She was startled by the bang, so I concentrated on proper stance, lining up the sights, etc. She never hit any of the dishes. I think she was jerking the trigger, but todays exercise was just to get her comfortable.

I then took out my .357 loaded with .38 WC that were my first attempt at reloading and six shots, 6 targets down. They are about a foot in diameter at 10 yards so it wasn't that much of a feat. But the object of the outing was fun, not necessarily a good score.

My wife is getting her pistol permit filled out. As soon as she is issued, we'll be having some fun with the handguns.

Congratulations! You must feel good about all of that. My wife just won't shoot the pistols. But the 10/22's, the AR-15, and the 22-250 are all within her game. Mater of fact, she asked me tonight when we were going shooting again. God I love her. And she's the best when it comes to picking up brass too!
Your wife getting her permit----you're good to go! Who could ask for anything more?

My wife will go once in awhile. She has a little .22 auto. That's neat.

My wife has a fit if I mention going to the range on a day she has to work! Only gun I have she refuses to shoot is my 44 mag. She fired 1 round from it and handed it back to me, that was about 10 years ago. Most of the time when we go I take 2 or 3 guns, my primary, secondary and back-up carry guns. She spends her time shooting her CZ 75 9mm compact.

Sounds like a good day with the family! About 8 years ago my wifes brother let her shoot a 12 guage (first gun she had ever shot). It hurt her shoulder and scared her so after 6 years of marriage she still will not shoot any kind of firearm with me.

Congrats! My wife loves to shoot. Started with a .22 and now she has her own XDsc9. Next is her permit.

This is pretty common. D-bags think it will be cool to beat up a girl with a gun. So they just hand it to them with no comments as to stance, grip, etc, then video it and put it on youtube for all the other "cool guys" to see. Lots of 115-130 lb. women on youtube shooting 3 1/2" shotguns, Smith .500s, Desert Eagles in .50 AE, you get the point.

Congrats to the OP. So in NY she has to have a permit to shoot a handgun?
