Steel plate match

I shot in my first match today. I ran 4 stages and did ok. Not as good as I'd have liked but not as bad as I could have either. Anyone else do this?

I shoot IDPA and our local steel plate matches which are loosely based on IDPA, but using steel.

There's no target to big or too close that you cannot manage to miss when someone is timing you with 15 or so of your closest friends watching!

Yup! I had a serious case of the nerves. My freind who brought me is a master class shooter with a pimped out SV match pistol. His times were about half of what I could do the stages in. It clearly showed me how pressure can change how well (or poorly) you shoot.

Don't feel bad, I'm retired army and still work on a fort, we periodically can get a couple of the green suiters to come out to a match and it's usually an eye opener for them too. We'll also get an occasional LEO, same deal with them.

It's quite a bit different from a square sterile range, for new shooters it can be intimidating.

Biggest thing is to just "do it".

We had four. They were loooong. Too complicated to explain. The first took 27 shots (ranging from easy to hard) to finish the stage. My buddy finished in 29 shots and about 30 seconds.

It took me 40 or so and about 80 seconds.
