Thoughts on the .50GI ?

I've just recently seen some 1911's chambered for this fat round, and there's also a (pricey) kit to make your Glock shoot it. Is this another solution to a non existing problem?

Here's a pic of it next to a .45ACP

I'd stick with the .45ACP...that's expensive enough and it does its job! OMO

Stay armed....45ACP is good...stay safe!

If money was no object, I'd love to have one. But unless my lottery numbers come in I'll stick with my .45.

I'm with deadhawg on this one. I want one just to say I own one, but my numbers haven't come up yet either.

I don't believe it's a solution to a 'non-existing' problem as it is something that's just 'bigger' for ego's sake. The .45 can rest on it's past history and reputation. I'm sure the .50GI is a good round, but it's more muscle and ego than anything else right now.

When my local WalMart starts selling ammo for it I may consider it, lol!!!
Sounds like one of the passing new calibers, I doubt it will ever be heard of 5 years from now. But we'll see.

I dunno...since I used to be one of those guys that said "I carry a .45 becasue they don't make a .50"...I just might have to get one to practice what I preached.

Seriously, though...yeah, if I had serious screw it money, I'd probably look at getting one from Guncrafters. It'd be a bit of bragging rights over some of my friends.

As far as practicality as a SD/CCW round? I'd have to shoot one. If it was as controllable as a .45, and worked as well as .45 does for me...well, it would be something to consider.

jeez, what are the ballistics on that round. Do you just lob the bullets like a mortar at your target? Will it reach them if they are farther than 20 yards away?

of course I jest, but that is a big ol bullet in a pretty short case.

IF they make one in commander size I would be way too tempted.

Aren't calibers .5 inches or bigger legally known as 'destructive devices'? I think that's why the .50 Action Express is actually around a .49 Action Express. The same with .50 GI?

While the novelty of the .50GI would be neat, I would personally just stick with 45ACP in a 1911.
