I prefer the 226, but then again, I own six now. :)
The 228/229 is too short for my extremely large hands. The 226 fits me like a 228/229 fits people with normally large hands - it's a compact gun for my use. In a home defense type gun, though, go for size. It'll be easier to shoot a 226 accurately due to increased sight radius.

Ive got several and I like them all.
Have you thought about the 226 in .357 Sig ? For a "house" gun, I'd go with the 226 ,ecpecially if you have big hands. |

I don't think you can lose either way. If you can, fire both and see which you like most. I have a 226 and a 239 and hope to get a 229 in 357SIG some time next year.

Hivoltage,
Sounds like you're already sold on a great gun (226 or 229), but it might be of interest to know that Sig and H&K both got multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts as a result of their stellar performance in the ICE tests not long ago. Sigs are great guns. You might want to take a look at the DAK (Sig) trigger system - it is sweeeet! |

Well....I made the trip to the gun store this morning and brought home the P229. Now I need to get a decent holster for it.
One question though, having not fired it yet....does the hammer ever rest on the firing pin? It appears to bounce off the pin whan I dry fire it and hang about midway between shots with an empty magazine!!! Thanks Last edited by Hivoltage; December 3rd, 2005 at 05:10 PM. |

HV - this is the SIG trigger type. With gun empty - cock it and then let hammer down under control - it will stop short of FP - but with trigger still to rear it will push fwd to contact FP. In use of course the momentum of the hammer takes it all the way for you well before trigger reset..
Once trigger resets, the hammer is blocked and so appears to sit back a bit. IMO a very good and safe system ![]() BTW - congrats on the new family addition!! ![]()

Thanks P95....makes good sense. I was hoping there wasn't a problem with it
The salesman said I made a good choice. He was a retired Police Officer and carried his for a long time. He said when they retire....they are allowed to purchase their carry weapon for 1 dollar....which he did.!!! The Sig is a very comfortable gun in my hand, hope it shoots good. |

I haven't got or shot a SIG that small but doubt very much you'll be other than delighted. You have already mentioned it feels good in the hand - and that is half the equation for me.
Now go shoot the snot out of it and break it in ![]()

I just came in from putting a couple magazines of Winchester 165 gr. through my new Sig P229 and all I can say is WOW!!!! I wont be trading this one in. What a sweet gun. No fancy stuff with this one, It's all business!!!!!!
Although I will be putting a set of Crimson Trace Lasergrips on it, just because I think they are cool!!!! |
