MIG -- thanks for the topic and the tip. I live in Norwood and am excited to learn there's an indoor rifle range nearby. I've been shooting at Targetworld, but Shooters Supply will be great for my ARs and M203!

I hate just about everything about where I live, EXCEPT one of the gun stores here.
It's owned and operated by a true gunsmith and firearm designer (the gas piston 1911 he built is phenomenal!). I only buy firearms from him, and I try to buy accessories there as well. If I need a part or something he doesn't have, I have him order it. It may cost me a couple bucks more than what I could find online, but I consider that money VERY well spent. I've been frequenting his shop for about the last 10-12 months, I guess, and I'd like to think we've developed a pretty good friendship. When I get to leave this God-forsaken city, the owner and his shop are going to be all I miss. |

There are several shops within a few miles; a few private places and a couple of big box stores with gun departments. One has a decent range; for target stuff, but not tactical/combat skills.

There are a few here. The big one, and the cheapest is located in not the most safest area. They anything and everything to do with shooting, hunting, archery, etc. and they aren't a chain store. There is two attached to a range, great guys, definatly more expensive. the other, the range/store isn't as nice, but good guys. There is also another that carrys alot of WW2 and later weaponry. I cant help but flood the floor with drool when I go there.
We got some Gander Mountains, too. |

Great Northern Guns, about 4 miles south of where I live. From the first time I walked in there, they've treated me with great respect and courtesy. Their selection is good, prices are a little high, but I'm willing to do business with them. They're even nice enough to invite me to their open house/BBQ once a year, but I haven't been to one yet.

Actually, I refuse to do business with Bud's, and I caught a lot of flak on another board when I called for others to do the same. Bud's sells a lot of firearms at or below what many small, local dealers can buy them for. I will continue to boycott Bud's, but I'm a little less vocal about it now since most on these boards would rather save $50-$100 than make sure their local dealer is still in business to make the transfer. ![]() The way I look at it is, every firearm purchased from Bud's and transferred to a local shop is a nail in that local shop's coffin. ![]() |

I have alot of choices, near where I live, and more in the city I work in 60 miles away. Knesek Guns ( a distributor) is about four miles from me. Last gun I purchased was from a pawn shop 9 miles away (they beat everyone on the price for my G19). The pawn shop across the street from them is a class III dealer, and I've handled the suppressed 10/22 and a shorty shotgun. John's Guns in Ft Smith is about 15 miles from me and has quite a bit of stuff. Gun City in Barling is actually a pawn shop but most of their business is firearms...about 15 miles away. In the evenings after work days, I can go by my favorite place for used Glock magazines, holsters, ammo, and anything else at Ozark Armory II. Just about a mile away from my work, there's Sturm's Range (where I took my CHL class and do any of my indoor shooting), also a class III dealer and rents out the fully automatics like the MP5, does lots of work for the city PD there also...most of my night sights were installed there. At home, or after work, I'm basically covered no matter what I'm looking for, I just work out the logistics before hand, and call ahead with any questions. This is Arkansas!

The one's around Jacksonville are either pawn shops or the only indoor pistol range and that place marks up guns over $100 so I don't buy from them. I usually find them on the internet and have them sent to the gunsmith down the road from me.
I was in Ocean City, MD the last week and went to Salisbury one day and they have a store called Gander Mountain. Wow. There must have been over 3,000 rifles, shotguns, and pistols in there. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they wouldn't sell to anybody out of state and you couldn't even touch anything unless you had a Maryland License.

I live in KC MO and we have a few to chose from. Well one less very soon. Rumor has it that the ATF has or is closing down what I know to be the busiest shop we have here. Supposedly they have failed to follow rules regarding paper work of some sort. It's a real shame too the guy's working there have lots of knowledge.
Another shop we have here is worthless due to their employees inability to service their customers. It's too bad, their prices are very good, but I've learned that customer service is well worth a few extra dollars and I've vowed to never again step foot in their doors and steer everyone I know away from there. We do have an up and coming shop were everything just seems right. No attitude, good advice, good selection and good prices. Anyone near the KC MO area should check out U. S. Gun Specialties. http://local.yahoo.com/info-41707257...es-kansas-city And no I do not work there. I'm just an impressed and satisfied customer. |
