Ohhh! Its Winchester show off time
. Please excuse the mess, Im getting ready to visit to N.Y.S. in a few days. Here's my Gramps 94. It was made between 1943 – 1948, with Willams peep sights. As you can see he shot atleast 43 bucks with it. I say at least, because he didn't have the time to make all of the checks it the stock. I shot 3 bucks with it. I made no checks, its an heir-loom piece. |

gregarat,
You're "flatband" could have been made as late as 1949, Winchester returned to the contoured barrel band around serial 1,550,000. Nice lookin' Winny. Do you have Madis's "The Winchester Book"? 1942 started at serial 1,287,469 and 1949 started at serial 1,500,000.

Bruce,
The 1911 rifle, as the story goes, came from the Yukon Territories. I bought it from a neighbor and have no reason to doubt him, but who knows? One thing I did find interesting about the old rifle was the magazine spring. When I got the rifle it felt awfully "mushy", when I took her apart I found someone had installed the shorter carbine spring in the mag and used a plug to get it to work. The plug was whittled out of a stick.
