M95 Carbine! (Finally got it)

Despite the lack of (and high prices) of the 8x56R surplus ammo I decided to finally invest in a M95 Steyr-Budapest Cavalry Carbine.

Paid a bit more to have all the SN matching/stamped

This is the best looking rifle I own and looks brand new!
Not too shabby for a 1918 manufactured firearm.

Hey, that's quite a nice looking gun! That 8X56 is a pretty potent round. The little carbine is a handy size.

Back in the late 1970s I bought a pre-1898 M95 Steyr rifle out of Shotgun News for $32 delivered right to my door. It was in 8X56 As I understood it at the time the 8X56 was an early 1930s conversion of the rifle's original 8X50 chambering. I had big intentions of hand loading for the long heavy thing. Bought 40 rounds of cases reformed from 45-70 and loaded with cast lead bullets from a place up north. The cast lead bullet didn't work out for accuracy though my rifle's bore was perfect and I never got around to locating a supply of .329 " diameter jacketed bullets nor did I pay through the nose for custom made loading dies. Traded the rifle away and now wish I'd kept it. The 8X56 hand loading situation is better these days.

The action design is a thing of beauty and the degree of workmanship in its manufacture is amazing.

The surplus ammo has almost all dried up.

Its either the 1938 nazi rounds or the 1940 bulgarian that I am able to find online.

Gotta get into hand loading!

She's a clean rifle. I was looking at them last night on the CIA Dealer site. CIA has the ammo for it "GERMAN 8x56R NAZI MARKED" 10 rounds for $12.50.
