I have two with special sentimental value.
1) My first .22, which I got when I was 8 years old. It's an Ithaca Saddle Gun. Looks like a scaled down Winchester Model 94, but is a falling block single shot. You pull the lever down to drop the breech block, insert a single .22 rimfire, push the lever up to close the block, cock the hammer, then fire. I learned to shoot and shoot well with this rifle, and learned to make the first shot count. 2) A Model 1901 Colt New Army Revolver. This one was given to me my the late Col. Fred Wilkins, who used to be my neighbor. He was an historian and author of a whole series of books about the Texas Rangers. I used to help him with his computer, which he used for his writing. On one occasion, I salvaged a lost file that was practically the entire text for one of his books. I really enjoyed knowing him and talking history. He was a fine gentleman and a great writer of history. He gave me the .38 revolver and a 1st run copy of the book I recovered for him, chronicling the Rangers during the Mexican War. He signed it along with this note, "To my friend Rod, who would have been a good Ranger." That meant a lot, coming from him. ![]()

I have a real 1805 Harper's Ferry pistol! This is the first pistol ever manufacturered by a U.S. Armory and it is also the inspiration behind U.S. Army Military Police symbols such as the Regimental Crest, the MP Distinctive Unit Insignia, and MP collar brass. This is significant to me because I am a retired MP. There are only about 400 or so known to exist.
![]() Before I retired I searched around the world for about 2 years looking for a manufacturer who would make a low-cost, non-functional, full-sized representation of this pistol for use in MP Awards and plaques. I finally found one and we have been making these for about 5 years or so. Here's my web site: $59 Harper's Ferry Pistol Replica! Pretty cool, huh! ![]() |
