Top 10 combat rifles

I looked around, but couldn't find a thread, if there is one please link me to it.

I thought this here was a good video Of course the pride and joy of my collection is #1 on this list. Also I was happy to see my Mauser is in there too.

Enjoy: Link

The AK-47? Really?
I guess that you can't hurt one, eh?

Interesting vid...Thanks!

I've put mine to the test. I've dropped it in the sand and haven't cleaned it after 500 rounds and it still works and has not ONCE jammed or misfired.

Don't know how anyone could leave the venerable old Mosin off such a list. In one form or another (my favorite being the M44 - - short, for easy handling and all, ya know, with a bayonet you can't lose).

It killed more Germans than the Garand, the '03 and the Enfield, probably all put together.

For that matter, it killed a whole lot of Russians, too....

As I recall, the Military Channel had a "top ten rifle" show that had the AK-47 in the top spot, and American Rifleman had a similar show (and magazine) where the M1 Garand came out on top.

Its all a matter of opinion really. Its the trained soldier that makes a combat rifle lethal. You may have the "best" mechanical rifle in existence but it won't make it the "best" when the rubber meets the road in combat because that part lies in the hands of how competent the operator is.

Sure the AK can be treated like garbage by garbage untrained people and still shoot, but a rifle that takes a little more love in the hands of a well trained soldier and can hit a greater distance wins hands down every single time. Guns fights have showed me time and again which rifle is the victor.

With the ease to disassemble, clean and reassemble; it is not hard to see why it hit number one. If you don't have an AK47 or clone or never seen one disassembled , watch one of the companion videos to the above link. When you consider that a child of 6 can be taught how to operate an AK47 is there any doubt that it is in the top ten.

What really makes a good combat rifle is one that can be kept in the battle.
Most any competant village blacksmith can make or repair most of the parts in an AK, that can't be said for most other battle rifles. The fewer parts to go bad the easier it is to keep running.

I agree with this, I remember reading an article on WW 1 where american troops were shooting at german troops from 700-800 yds and the germans could not belive they were taking fire. Although thier weapons were the equal to the american weapons..they had not been trained to shoot at the distances the american troops were shooting from..needless to say they got chewed up pretty bad.
