Any police agencies still use the .357 magnum?

I was wondering if any law enforcement agencies still using the .357 magnum revolver? I can recall reading about some agencies still authorizing its use,I could have sworn that one of them was LAPD after that shoot out years ago when the officers wanted a round with more penetration.

I haven't even seen a LEO with a revolver in years.

There are a few smaller federal agencies that are more security than LEO do, and a lot of older cops get grandfathered in so they are able to carry a revolver.

We still have some in our inventory for training or a option for the detectives.

Seems like large capacity with fast magazine reloads are what PD's are geared towards today,6 used to be enough til gangbangers started carrying G17's with 17+1

As good as the .357 round is, in today's environment a six shot revolver just isn't practical (though there are 8 shot .357s available). When you run out and need to reload the other guy still has 10 or better left. Who do you think will win that encounter?

The better tactician. Is that a word? If not, I'm going to trademark it.

The guy whose round hits the target.

I can't remember that last time I saw a cop with a six shooter. Even campus cops carry autos.
The only people I see carrying revolvers these days (besides myself) are security guards and armored truck personnel.

BTW SIXTO: yes, tactician is a word.

We have a Sgt. soon to retire still carries his .357 - Our PD doesn't issue the weapon - officers provide their own - about the only restrictions the Chief has on what we carry is that it's not larger than a .40 caliber. He doesn't like the .45 for some reason.

About a year or so ago I was in NYS and saw a Cop with a revolver in a leather holster. It looked like it had not come out of that holster for years. I hear they were also Grandfathered and there was around 100 Cops in NYS still with revolvers.
