Help me decide
I'm debating on an SKS or Mosin-Nagant for my next firearm. I like both firearms and feel they are pretty much equal. I can only get one tho... at least right now.
![]() I'm leaning towards the SKS right now mainly due to the fact I won't be adding another caliber to my collection. It uses the same ammo as my AK. I like the Mosin-Nagant better tho. If there was one in 7.62x39 I'd probably get it. What do you guys think? |

Since you already have an AK, I'd go with the Mosin-Nagant.

I'd get the SKS which might be banned if a new AWB gets passed.

I would guess that the 7.62x54R ammunition will be in short supply long before 7.62x39 ammo. And, with the Mosin, you'd best be one to like cleaning up after using corrosive ammunition...and clean soon after a range trip.
I do not own a Mosin, although I have kinda had a hankering to try one for grins. At $125 for a cherry condition copy on the rack, it ain't that big of investment. And, if you go ahead and buy the 800 round pack of ammo while it's available (at a few places), you should be good to go. Mounting a scope on the Mosin could get expensive, so I have read. For me, the longer range potential (for a "good shooting gun") would be lost without the scope. I really would not mind the fact that the Mosin "kills on one end and maims on the other" in terms of recoil. For some strange reason I get an adrenilan buzz out of recoil. I have had a couple of SKS copies, and had a ball shooting them, but would probably enjoy the Mosin for different reasons. surv |

I,ve owned all three , the AK the SKS and the Mosin-Nagant .
The SKS is a good gun but not as good as an AK because you cannot change mags without pulling back the bolt. So you are stuck using striper clips with the factory mag, or using aftermarket detachable mags that you cannot change until the gun is out of ammo or by holding the bolt back. Find a Polish M44 Mosin-Nagant if you can , they were built after WW2 and are in the best shape IMO I got mine about 12 years ago (new and unissued)and its the best looking one i have ever seen . PS .buy a shotgun slip on pad for it, you will need it. ![]()

Is the Mosin bolt or Semi-auto? I know the SKS is semi... but not so sure about the Mosin.

I'd find the Mosin Nagant the more enjoyable rifle. It's more powerful than any 7.62X39. It'd also be more fun for hand loading purposes.
