The pilot was probably one of those who have gone through the process to be able to carry a firearm on duty.

Good story either way.

My worst flight ever….

I was flying from Memphis to Durham, NC. I’m going to be there from Sunday till the following Sat. I check in 2 handguns.
The flight was to leave Memphis on Sunday at 10:10 am, go to Atlanta, and then arrive at Durham at 2:00pm. The flight keeps getting delayed, till at 2:00pm they finally tell us that they are waiting on a part, and it will have to have the part installed when it arrives, so looks like it will be after 4:00pm of so before we leave. Then they finally suggest be see about another flight. The next flight is leaving in 15 minutes, but they can’t get me luggage transferred in that amount of time. The one after that was 45 minutes later, and they ASSURE me it will not be a problem to get the luggage on the right plane. So I book that one. Of course the flight is missed in Atlanta, and I have to rebook for a later flight.

It is after 10pm when I get to Durham. My luggage is not there. They tell me they will let me know when it arrives. I go to the Rental car lot, they let me reserved car go since I was 6 hours late. They finally fine me one. I have a 2 hour drive to Greenville where I have a business meeting the next morning. I stop at a 24 hr Wal-Mart, and buy FULL set of clothes, underwear and all. PLUS all the toiletries. I get to the Motel and about 1 in the morning. I have a meeting at 7:00am the next morning.

Now about 2 in the afternoon, I call about my luggage, with the 2 pistols in it. The “lady” on the phone says no information is available. I ask for a supervisor. She replies real curtly, “They can’t tell you any more than I can.” I ask for her name, she asks why. I tell her I am a 03 licensed Federal Firearm Dealer, and I have 2 handguns in my suitcase, and by Federal Law, If they are “Lost” for more than 24 hours, I have to call the ATF and let them know. So I needed to know who to tell them to talk to, and probably the TSA will need to talk to her also, and since it was on a Airplane, Homeland Security might wish to talk to her also. And that they had about 1 ½ hour before I had to call the ATF. I give her my cell phone number and go back to my meetings.

About 20 minutes later, there is a voice message that they found my Luggage, and they were sending it to my hotel within 15 minutes. So they paid a delivery service a 4 hour round trip to get it to me…..

Sometimes name dropping can help. Espscially 3 letter names like ATF, FBI, HLS, TSA.........

I think you summed up flying in the new millennium.
Good people, bad people, careless people, lazy people.
In the end, you get home. I find the smallest effort by airline people, going out of their way, just makes my day. I'm so used to "We have our rules." "We don't do that." when I find good service I'm pleasantly surprised.

It's a sad commentary when, piss- poor service has become such the norm in this country, that stories of someone performing duties above and beyond are so awe- inspiring.
