Man you're tearing my heart out!

I worked in Cadillac Ambulances... 1976 Cadillac Superior with the 501 cubic inch limousine engines. We used to cruise "The Plaza" in them in midtown KCMO lookin cool!

We never used Epi via Inter Cardiac injections in Missouri. I always wondered why the pre-load Epi and Calcium had 4" needles on them until I met my wife. When my wife started in 1976, over in Kansas, every code got Inter Cardiac Epi and Calcium in their protocols... I was amazed that she had done over 300 IC sticks.

We had a Thumper salesmen come by to demo one of the models on CPR manikin once. When he activated it, the chest placement pad "popped" off and a steel piston rammed right through the chest of poor old Resusi-Annie.

I said, "You know, even the most uneducated ignorant family is gonna figure out something is wrong when they see blood shooting out of the chest of their loved one and the EMS crew is screaming "Oh, Sh**, Oh Sh**!"

He didn't sell us any Thumpers!

LOL

You've got me by a few years, but I did participate in some interesting protocols. My first monitor was a single-lead LP 5.

I remember the Thumper - we actually had a few, and they were scary.....

The Thumper was before my time, but the new AutoPulse is great tech.

After we had a shooting at the range where I work, I put together a kit that hangs on the wall near the range. Kerlix gauze, Vaseline gauze, a stack of 5x9s and 8x10s, Gloves, a CPR mask, roll of 2" tape, and some Coban wrap.

We have a first aid kit for the little stuff, mostly bandaids for people who shoot with their thumb over the back of the gun.

OK OK check this out you EMS trivia hounds. When I got my first transport job way back in the late 80s, one truck had an old dusty scratched up Datascope just like Johnny and Roy used, for the heart monitor; the big green circle screen that displayed 1 complex at a time. All the other trucks had the state-of-the-art LP5s. I can't even find a pic of that Datascope...

So as not to continue to hijack this great thread mercop started, I started a new thread in Off Topic & Humor called Vintage EMS Equipment.

I have lots of pictures and you can post your own, comment or ask questions.

Seems like it could be a fun thread.... we'll see how it goes!

Range Bag: CAT tourniquet, Israeli bandage, some gauze, triangle bandgage, etc.

Car: "VOK" from Tactical Response Gear

Work bag: more of the same...

I also always carry a bandanna in my back pocket. It can be used either as a quick-n-dirty compress, knotted for use as a tourniquet (using a folder or other object as a windlass) etc. Maybe not as good as purpose designed stuff, but it's something I can keep immediately available without any hassle.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread, and thanks to everyone else that posted links. Up to now, I've only had band-aids, 2x2s, antiseptic wipes, etc.

If we are going to carry around things that can make large, deep holes, the least we can do is carry something to patch them...

I will be updating mine immediately.

I keep meaning to get a few ACS bandages. Other than that I have some minimal gear, but not much.

I also carry at least one EPI pen on me. Not exactly for gunshot wounds though.

Glad this is getting the attention it needs, carrying a gun is all about survivability right? Then obviously you need first aid training and gear. You are going to need it long before you get a chance to whack a bad guy with your pistol. Personal protection and preparedness is a way of life, not a weekend hobby. - George
