Have a lot of favorite guns from movies, but one of the best "sounding gunshots" is from the movie "Open Range", where Kevin Costner shoots the BG in the head. I believe it is a Single Action Army a.k.a. Peacemaker or Frontiersman.
If you have a good subwoofer in your system, this scene will rattle your cage. Overall, some of the best sounding gunshots in a movie.

Vic Mackey on the shield carried the 40S&W 4006 not a 4506.

Shield, The - imfdb :. guns in movies :. movie guns :. the internet movie firearms database

Thanks for the assist OD. There are even a few episodes where he mentions it being a .45 IIRC
