Not necessarily, they own the equipment, you're there on their time, you should be doing their work not something personal. They have every right to restrict personal access. They're paying you to do a job, not look at web sites that have nothing to do with their business.

Yes, a gun is a weapon. But the danger comes from the mind attached to the trigger finger.
Caliber doesn't matter if you can't hit your target.

This is complete B.S. this guy should not have lost his job over this. To me this is very scary and only goes to show you how far the brainwashing of the non gun owners in this country has gone. Its like if you own a gun these days and your not a cop, people think you insane or some crazed killer waiting to happen. I feel this is sad and also would like to point out our friend across the pond in England, the gun owners of Great Britain also suffered being stigmatized as gun owners in the public eyes as well, something to think about.

This is why when I worked in a office setting a few years back I never discussed my gun ownership or political views. I also never browsed gun related sights on the company computers either. I always used my personal smart phone for this for just this type of reason. Also something to keep in mind if your work issues you a blackberry or other type of device,be careful about where you web surf on it or what you email or text from it. These types of things are not private on a company owned/issues device.

The article is incorrect in saying that he was the first person fred for looking at gun sites. That was May of 2007. I was fired in January 2007, from my job working in a medical clinic in a Walgreen's, and the major complaint that they had was that I looked at gun sites!

We had a similar situation occur where I work a few years back, and several people were fired, and over a hundred disciplined. What happened, started small:

A Supervisor noticed one of their reports gambling online and reported it to executive management who in turn ordered an investigation, which involved HR and corporate IT which resulted in all the corporate E-Mail server logs and browser histories being pulled and observed. This sent shock waves through the company and everyone made a mad scramble to delete every saved email they could. Of course, a whole bunch of folks that got fired hired lawyers and got their jobs back; some got demoted and many got reprimanded, and after that, corporate IT changed the welcome screen on all corporate computers notifying you that you have no implied right to privacy and could be terminated if you violate it......

I am so glad I only have roughly 7.5 years to go until retirement......

Where I worked... you could have nothing that was gun-related or you would be fired.

One day someone walked past a truck in the parking lot, saw some spent shotgun shells in the back, reported it... and the employee was fired.

If you have a picture, a gun publication, an advertisement of ammo or gun, etc..... it would all lead to termination. Yes, these folks were over this company were also buddies with our anti-gun Governor. She's gone now.

Yet, when layoffs started.... they took all of the top Management and gave them gun training and allowed them to carry concealed guns at work..... all out of their "FEAR" of the some employee going off on them when they were told they were layed off. Out of 9000 + layoffs, there was not one incident by any employee. Can we say paranoia ?

Kind of hyprocrites, huh.

Since when do you expect to have a legal right to screw off at work?

Where I work, the only people who play on the internet during work hours are supervisors.
