I've been thinking of joining IDPA for a while now. The drive was always prohibitive for me. We finally got a chapter fairly close. Only about a 70 mile drive away.
It's at a shooting school run by former Marine scout/snipers and current Highway Patrol snipers. I'll probably run down there next month and watch one of their matches. I think they shoot IDPA 1st Saturday of the month. Looks like you had a lot of fun.

As for the 10+ pocket vests, I agree. I actually started wearing a fleece vest in VA as the weather there was kind of screwy in the spring/fall. Never quite warm enough for just a shirt, but never quite cold enough for a jacket. Being out here in farm country, I'll actually wear the Carhartt vest while out working in the yard etc rather than just have some silly "utility garment" for range day. Oh yeah, and let me tell you what I think about "shooting boxes" ![]() ETA: Every "sport" has their quirks. USPSA is fun, but I prefer IDPA ![]() |

One hole in the pocket is enough for now. My wife and I continue to do the USPSA shoots outdoors with stock pistols and gear. Both local IDPA clubs do all of their shoots indoors. Either way, it's practice and shots downrange. Pros and cons of each or either? Not really............you get what you want out of it, or try something else. Glad you're having a blast and doing well.

IDPA is a fun game. Nice to throw some different things into the mix instead of just blasting at a stationary target until your mag is empty.

Idpa is really great and I do enjoy it. We just finished our Georgia State match and had right at 200 shooters doing thirteen stages.
Visit "youtube" and search "gadpa 2009 georgia State match" I hate to link it because some weird stuff shows up sometimes in a link from youtube. |

You are lookin' real good there JD.
![]() What?!? Your 1911 actually functioned flawlessly? I thought only Glocks did that. You might appreciate the extra depth perception and increased contrast that a pair of medium Yellowish/Amber shooting glasses will give you more than clear lenses. Every little bit helps. Oh....and the vest doesn't look bad at all. |

Thanks for posting this. I want to get into IDPA this coming year if time will allow. Between working full-time, being a single parent and going back to school in January, I may not have the time, but this thread is motivating me..

The boy did a credible job--he beat me! Now we just have to get Lima out there. Dan Ps--Happy Birthday JD! And come out and try USPSA. I dearly love IDPA, but to be honest, you'll get more practice and see more improvement in your gun handling skills, faster from USPSA. Heck, you shoot more. <g> And "Single Stack" runs exactly the same gear that you shot in IDPA. You can even wear the vest if you want.
