Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver.

CRKT Mini My Tighe

I picked up a CRKT Mini My Tighe (1093K) last night from my dealer for $58. It is a very nice knife. It is more rugged and has a more tactical feel to it than my current EDC Kershaw Scallion. (Quick note on the Kershaw Scallion: one ******* cheapo knife)

The Mini My Tighe is a smaller version of the My Tighe... like the name doesn't already indicate that. For features, it includes: 3.0-inch 1.4116 55-57 HRC stainless steel blade coated with titanium nitride, black EDP plated frame, Combined Razor-Sharp & Veff Serrated edge, and OutBurst assisted opening. The whole package has a 3.73" closed length, an overall 6.5" opened length, and a weight of 3.8oz.

I managed to take a few pics at the office.

What do you think?

I've been toying with the idea of getting one...

how fast is the assisted opening compared to the Kershaw knives?

I do not have much experience with Kershaw other than the Scallion I own, so I cannot provide a supported opinion. The Scallion has both thumb studs and a flipper trigger. The CRKT Mini My Tighe only has thumb studs.

I managed to take some low resolution video (160x160) of the assisted opening of each knife. The first video is of the Kershaw Scallion (first two openings are using the flipper trigger; second two are using a thumb stud). The second video is the CRKT Mini My Tighe.

Kershaw Scallion [1.06 MB]

CRKT Mini My Tighe [0.96 MB]

Personally, the Scallion’s SpeedSafe assisted opening using the flipper trigger feels more fluid and natural. The Mini’s OutBurst assisted opening feels more clunky and mechanical. The Mini does however feel more solid.

KenpoTex, why toy with the idea when you could play with the toy?

I was gonna say ''no'' but on reflection have to say yes! Only because it becomes a bit like the dreaded ''holster box'' - so many get put aside!!

Do like good blades tho.

Knives get lost, break, get stolen, need sharpening, are on the wrong pair of pants etc, etc.

Sure you can get by with one or two but life is a lot easier if you have multiple options.

And as I always say to my wife when she asks 'why do you need to get another (insert whatever it is)?

"Because I can."
