| Defensive Knives & Other Weapons Most people that carry a gun also carry a knife or other weapon as a backup. Finding a good blade is often harder than finding a good pistol or revolver. |

I've had a few of those "oops...Ouch" moments here and there. Glad this one wasn't worse for ya.

Looks pretty rough Brownie, glad to hear it wasn't worse though. If you work with knives it's not a question of if you'll get cut but when and how badly. I sunk a double edged boot knife into the back of my left hand about 3/4" below the bottom joint of my thumb a few years ago. Only needed 5 stitches though - the bone stopped the tip from going any deeper. Definitely an attention getter, ain't it?!

You're not alone in live edge work. Used to to Iaido drills with a "live" antique katana. Also used "live" kama and that's the one that got me one time! I was doing a kama drill in the dark, a great way to practice control but I did have that one whoops. Never got myself with a knife, yet, and mine will all shave hair. How else to keep a blade?

Thanks for the thoughts Kenpo
They are attention getters aren't they Jack? Glad yours was not too serious either sir. No question, the blades are an interesting tool when used BTW Kenpo, I just picked up my third 28-2, this one in 6 inch version, almost new that came in the shop. Grips are not correct but that will change shortly. ELCruisr, the sharper the better. This K left a clean cut, no blood on the blade at all it happened so fast. Thing about the K's is, their slash is actually stabbing through, the tip leading the way at all times. Nasty tools and it bears witness to the amount of damage they'll do very quickly due to the ergos. I try to stay away from the swords myself, the bowies are as long as I want to go in that regard. Buy the Karambit trainer from Emerson and save your hands.
I carry the Emerson folding Karambit as my daily knife and love it. Can't say I haven't taken my share of nicks, but nothing like yours. Invest in the trainer!! |

Trainers are great but sooner or later you will have to work with a live blade, and you will cut yourself. If you don't do live blade work when you need to use it you may not be able to. Each blade is different, the trainer, no matter how close it mimics the real thing can not give you the feel for the real knife.

Forget the trainer, get the Kevlar skin graft and you're GTG.
